In this video

Sweet Child O Mine is a love song Axl wrote about his then girlfriend Erin Everly (daughter of Don Everly of the Everly Brothers). They married in 1990 but divorced a month later.

Alternate full-color version. Published May 17, 2018.

She's got a smile it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky

Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry

Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine

this song is obviously about axl rose being a romantic. He talks about a girl, possibly a love interest. The way he talks about her, well, he’s in love and the part ‘where do we go now’, he’s asking her where their relationship leads; if she wants to take it further into commitment or something.

This is one of my favorite love songs. To me it is about pure, true love. and the way he compares her to childhood makes my heart drop

TusseyTheTerribleo
She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain

Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh yeah yeah
Oh oh sweet love of mine

I’ve always thought this song was about a guy [Axl] falling in love with a girl who makes him feel like a kid again.

This song was sent to me in one of our first pieces of communication after 22 years by a guy that I was briefly crazy about.
He was 15 and I was 16.
He told me that this song brings back the most amazing memories of our short time together ( about 3 months during the summer of 1987 )
We are still hugely attracted to each other but will not act on it due to being in committed relationships with different people.

To me this song reminds me of one very lucky afternoon in the summer 1991 (just 4 days before our graduation from high school), when I got to ‘rock n roll’ to the beat of this amazing song with the girl I really, really like!! We danced shoulder-to-shoulder like two rockers playing their guitars, and I sang like a lead singer would sing to his lead guitarist. And in between the stanzas and chorus, we just swayed our bodies to the rhythm of the guitars and drums. Yeah, it was really very great! I could not believe it happened ’cause only a year ago, it was one of my wildest dreams — to dance with the “love of my love” [back then] to the tune of Sweet Child O’ Mine. Though it was just a short while (we danced so close to each other up to the end of the second chorus only), it still pleased me so much.

Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, oh
Where do we go?
(Where do we go now?)
Oh where do we go now? (Where do we go?)
Where do we go? (Sweet child)
Oh where do we go now?
Ay ay ay ay (where do we go now, where do we go)
Oh where do we go now?

This song is definitely one of my all time favorites! My favorite part is the end when he says, “where do we go now?” it’s almost like there’s two parts to the song, the first part where he’s all happy and talking about how amazing this girl is, but then at the end, where he’s kind of confused about where the relationship is going. I also love love love the guitar in this song. it kicks major ass as well as the lyrics!

Oh where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, where do we go now?
No, no, no, no, no, no

Why is “Sweet Child O’ Mine” such a popular song?

Sweet Child O’ Mine is so popular because it sings of feelings we have each have had straight from the soul or heart. In hearing it one is left with the feeling, YEAH! That’s exactly how I feel about her! or him! Straight from the heart! It’s as if someone stole it straight from the tune your heart sings about someone you love and molded it into a fashion others will recognize and agree with. It feels as if it is yours.
